Developing proper contingency planning will be one of the key themes at this year’s Cool Logistics Global conference in Algeciras, taking place on 25-27 September 2017
LONDON, 25.01.2017 – Mired in a sea of uncertainty with the very foundations of global trade and growth under threat, one thing at least is clear: people have to eat. Therefore they also need to meet to discuss how perishables can be transported and handled more effectively in the future.
Cool Logistics Global, the annual conference for shipping and logistics people, will seek once more to define the edge of possibility in terms of shipping, trading and the logistics of perishables. Tackling issues including the latest trends in logistics, container shipping, infrastructure and distribution planning and reefer container handling, the event will also probe food prices, environmental challenges and the relentless march of digitization and data harvesting.
From Chilean blue berries to high value perishables such as pharmaceuticals, to more traditional items such as frozen beef and fish, these products have one characteristic in common: they require temperature control and appropriate technology to ensure minimum waste.
To mark this, Cool Logistics will feature once more a dedicated technology workshop, which will precede the usual two-day conference. The workshop will cover topics such as digitization in all areas of the perishable supply chain, the deployment of new storage techniques, temperature monitoring, cold chain transparency and intelligent packaging.
2017 will be the first year that Cool Logistics Global will be held in Algeciras. Located at the tip of Southern Europe – virtually on the edge of the African Continent – Algeciras attracts a higher concentration of reefer cargoes from Latin America than many of its competitors in both Southern and Northern Europe.
Cool Logistics Global will be looking at all the criteria defining issues such as security of supply, food safety, currency movements as well as at both the commercial and critical realities of logistics solutions.
The conference will feature a series of live debates during which not only success stories but also trials and errors will be highlighted and candidly discussed. As always, the Cool Logistics conference will not shy away from identifying existing and potential shortcomings of different perishable supply chains.
Key sponsors at this stage already include the Port of Algeciras, Agro Merchants, Fruit Logistica, Seaco, Zeeland Seaports and Visbeen.
